Commercial Lawyer (Direct Hire)
We are seeking an experienced Commercial & Property Lawyer to support an established Australian law firm based in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial law, with practical experience across property transactions, conveyancing, and general commercial advisory matters.
This role is suited to a versatile legal professional who is comfortable managing a broad range of commercial and property matters rather than specialising exclusively in one area. Experience working within a multidisciplinary law firm, particularly one offering wills and estates, property, and commercial legal services, will be highly regarded.
Responsibilities:
Provide practical legal advice to clients on a broad range of commercial, business, and property law matters within the Australian jurisdiction.
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including business sale and purchase agreements, shareholder agreements, service agreements, and other commercial contracts.
Advise on property-related transactions, including commercial and residential property matters, leases, and conveyancing.
Assist clients with business structuring, commercial transactions, contractual obligations, and risk management.
Conduct legal due diligence and identify potential legal and commercial risks associated with business and property transactions.
Manage matters independently from initial client consultation through to completion, ensuring timely and commercially sound outcomes.
Collaborate with colleagues across property, conveyancing, wills and estates, and other practice areas where matters overlap.
Maintain strong client relationships by providing clear, responsive, and commercially practical legal advice.
Stay informed of developments in Australian commercial and property law, particularly relevant Victorian legislation and regulations.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in Law and current admission to practise as an Australian lawyer, with eligibility to practise in Victoria.
Ideally 5 or more years of post-admission experience in commercial law, property law, or a combination of both.
Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts and advising on business transactions.
Practical experience in property law, commercial leasing, conveyancing, or related property transactions.
Strong understanding of Australian commercial law and Victorian property legislation and legal procedures.
Experience working within a general practice or multidisciplinary law firm will be highly regarded.
Exposure to wills and estates, succession planning, or related private client matters would be advantageous.
Strong commercial acumen, attention to detail, and ability to provide practical, solutions-focused legal advice.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage client relationships independently.
Must be based onshore in Australia, preferably in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs, with the ability to meet the firm's working arrangements.
