Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Paralegal to provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to our client's legal team across a range of legal matters, with a primary focus on criminal law. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting lawyers throughout the lifecycle of legal matters by managing case files, preparing legal documents, conducting research, coordinating court-related activities, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the practice.
This role is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented legal professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering exceptional legal support. While experience in Canadian or U.S. (particularly New York) legal practice is highly desirable, candidates with strong legal support experience from other jurisdictions are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Provide legal and administrative support across a broad range of criminal law matters.
Draft, prepare, and format legal correspondence, pleadings, affidavits, motions, briefs, and other court documents.
Manage legal files from opening through to completion, ensuring accuracy and compliance with deadlines.
Conduct legal research and assist lawyers with case preparation.
Organize disclosure, evidence, witness statements, and trial or hearing bundles.
Coordinate court dates, hearings, client meetings, and lawyer calendars.
Liaise professionally with clients, courts, counsel, law enforcement agencies, and other external stakeholders.
Maintain accurate legal records, document management systems, and case files.
Assist with billing, file administration, and other general legal administrative duties.
Ensure strict confidentiality and compliance with legal and professional standards.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Law, Legal Studies, or a related field.
3–7 years' experience as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant.
Experience providing legal administrative and paralegal support in a law firm or legal environment.
Experience supporting criminal law matters is highly desirable.
Canadian or U.S. (particularly New York) legal experience is advantageous but not essential.
Strong legal drafting, legal research, and document management skills.
Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple matters and work independently in a remote environment.
